Ever face the problem of a clogged sink ? I have. It's annoying, it's depressing, any it could be costly if you need to engage a plumber.
I have tried a few things that work and sharing here, hopefully one of these methods will save your sink without having to call a plumber.
1. Easy: Boiling Water
If you sink is clogged due to build up gooey like fats, chocolate, butter, and the likes. You may have an easy fix.
Boil Some Water. Pour it Down the Drain. The heat can help dissolve grease and other gunk that's causing the blockage.
Repeat if Needed: If the clog persists, try repeating the process a few times.
Caution:
Avoid Plastic Pipes: Boiling water can damage plastic pipes.
2. Easy: use a plunger
If the boiling water method doesn't do the trick, probably the clog is more than just grease, you may need to use a plunger, using air to push out the blockage.
Prepare the Sink
Use a bucket or towels to remove excess water.
Ensure a tight seal around the drain opening, you want to seal the plunger, so airtight air pressure can
push through the pipe and push out the blockage.
Plunging Technique
* Fill the cup of the plunger with water.
* Plunge up and down with a strong, steady motion.
* Release Pressure by quickly lifting the plunger to break the suction.
* Repeat the cycle, continue plunging until the clog clears or the water drains.
3. Intermediate. Use a drain snake.
Use a drain snake, like this one on Amazon. Personally I have found this method extremely effective.
* Select a snake that's long enough, make sure the tip of the snake could to reach the clog. If you are uncertain where the block is, aim for a reasonably long snake, 3-5m.
* Insert the snake into the drainpipe, turning the crank to push the snake further down the pipe. The crank turn will also turn the tip of the snake, which has a piece of "clog beater", that in turn breaks down clog along the pipe.
* As you insert the snake, you may feel resistance. This is a sign that you've reached the blockage, congratulations !
* Now that you've reached the clog, turn the crank repeatedly to break it up.
* Once you feel you have done enough breaking the blockage up, slowly retract the snake by cranking anti-clockwise.
* Finally, flush the drain with hot water to remove any remaining debris.
Tip
Clean the Snake after use with a wire brush, cloth rag, and soap. Storing a dirty snake makes it stinks and rusts quickly.
4. When nothing else works, unfortunately, call a Pro.
Consult a plumber. They probably has the tools and know-how to clear your sink.
